Testing / Complete Hormone Panel

ApoB · Lp(a) · Cardiovascular Risk

Your real cardiovascular risk. LDL doesn't show it.

LDL cholesterol is a 50-year-old metric. ApoB, Lp(a), and homocysteine are the markers cardiologists actually use to predict cardiovascular events — and they're absent from standard panels. This panel measures the full modern cardiovascular risk picture.

Why it matters

Three reasons this panel changes the conversation.

01

20% of people have elevated Lp(a) and have no idea

Lp(a) is genetically determined — diet, exercise, and statins have minimal effect on it. The only treatment is knowing it's elevated and managing the surrounding risk aggressively. Standard panels never measure it. This panel does.

02

ApoB counts the particles that actually cause plaques — LDL doesn't

Each atherogenic particle carries one ApoB molecule. ApoB directly counts the number of particles capable of entering artery walls — regardless of cholesterol content per particle. A patient with 'normal' LDL-C can have a dangerously high ApoB, and vice versa. ApoB is what you actually need to know.

03

Homocysteine is the treatable cardiovascular risk factor your doctor never checks

Elevated homocysteine directly damages the endothelial lining of arteries. It's treatable with methylated B12, folate, and B6. Without measuring it, you may be carrying a correctable risk factor for years.

What's Included

Complete Hormone Panel$249

ApoBThe number of atherogenic particles — more predictive than LDL-C for cardiovascular events
Lp(a)Genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor — missed by every standard lipid panel; elevated in ~20% of the population
HomocysteineEndothelial damage marker — elevated homocysteine is an independent cardiovascular risk factor, treatable with B vitamins
hs-CRPSystemic inflammation — the inflammatory component of cardiovascular risk, independent of lipids
Total CholesterolStandard lipid baseline
LDLStandard LDL-C — context for ApoB comparison
HDLProtective fraction — low HDL alongside elevated triglycerides is the atherogenic dyslipidaemia pattern
TriglyceridesVLDL particle marker — most sensitive lipid indicator of insulin resistance
Total TestosteroneLow testosterone is an independent cardiovascular risk factor in men
hs-TSHHypothyroidism produces secondary dyslipidaemia — must be ruled out before treating lipids
AlbuminNutritional status — malnutrition drives cardiovascular risk through multiple pathways

Common questions

Everything you should know before ordering.

My cholesterol is 'normal' — do I still need this panel?

Possibly yes. ApoB and Lp(a) are independent of total cholesterol. Patients with normal or even low LDL can have elevated ApoB (high particle count) and significantly elevated Lp(a). The combination of normal LDL with elevated ApoB is the pattern most commonly missed by standard panels.

Should I fast before this panel?

Yes — an 8-hour overnight fast is required for accurate triglyceride and LDL measurements. Water and medications are fine. ApoB and Lp(a) are fasting-independent, but the lipid panel requires it.

Is this panel HSA/FSA eligible?

Yes. Physician-ordered diagnostic testing is HSA and FSA eligible. At a 32% bracket, effective cost is approximately $170.
