When should I collect the blood sample for cortisol?

AM cortisol is time-sensitive. Collect between 7–9 AM, ideally within 30 minutes of waking. Cortisol follows a diurnal pattern — it peaks on waking and falls through the day. An AM draw captures the peak; afternoon collection will show a falsely low result.

What does elevated DHEA-S mean?

Elevated DHEA-S (above age-adjusted range) can indicate adrenal hyperplasia or excess androgen production — relevant primarily for women with PCOS. In men, mildly elevated DHEA-S is common and generally benign. Your physician interprets your value in the context of your full panel.
